Clare County Museum, Ennis, Co. Clare

General Details
St. Xavier’s school and chapel were scheduled for inclusion on the Derelict Sites Register. However, given the architectural sensitivity and historical significance, refurbishment was deemed the best solution. This extensive project included the provision of museum exhibition space, office space, public toilets, canteen, meeting rooms that included video conferencing facilities, new Clare County Council Chamber, a new extension to the rear to form the Tourist Information Office and general refurbishment of roof finishes, services and internal finishes. The character of the school and chapel has been retained and the new Museum development was carried out in accordance with the character of the building prior to redevelopment. The Project was conducted in two phases, the first phase consisting of the council chambers and meeting/lecture rooms with video conferencing facilities and fully fitted Tourist Office. The second phase consisted of the museum space which consisted of 700m2of exhibition space over two floors interconnected into the Tourist office in Phase 1.
